Scout
Hi, my name is Scout. I’ve been with my family for a year so to celebrate that I wanted to introduce myself to you since you see so many photos of me.
I was born in September of 2017. I don’t have many memories of the first few months of my life because I was mistreated and now, they cause me high anxiety to think about. I was rescued by a kind woman who works for a foster organization in Minnesota called Heading Home K-9 Rescue. On March 24, 2018, I was taken to PetSmart with all the other foster dogs, and we got to meet so many lovely families. All of a sudden, a couple walks up to my crate and says, “You are so handsome, little guy.” They took me out of the crate and away from all the people so they could get to know me. I usually don’t feel comfortable around men, but I was really drawn to the man who picked me out. I curled up in his lap, and I felt so safe. After spending about an hour with them, they signed some paperwork and then they walked me out of the store. I was a little overwhelmed, but I was excited to see what life would hold with them.
And then my life really began…
The first week that Mom and Dad adopted me there was a massive snowstorm, and they let me roll around in the snow, and they even played with me. One of my favorite memories from the first few weeks was when dad was playing with me in the living room, and I was so happy Mom said she thought my tail was going to wag off. Mom and I like to run circles in our apartment, and she even hides from me, but I always find her.
The summer flew by. I took family photos with Mom and Dad. I helped one of Dad’s friends propose. I tore apart three stuffed dinosaur toys which left the living room looking like a fluffy mess. I caught over ten gophers because I really like the chase. I love resting my head on Dad’s knee when they’re eating and looking up at him. I never bark, but I think the food they eat is way tastier than mine. I love car rides with Mom because they are so relaxing.
The fall began, and with it, Mom and Dad’s schedule changed, but they always make sure to come to visit me every two hours. Mom and Dad get a little stressed during the school year, so I like to help her with laundry and cleaning the dishes. Mom randomly gives me big hugs which I love because they make me feel so safe and loved.
At the end of September, we returned back to Minnesota to visit my grandparents. I love visiting them because they give me delicious meat and cheese sticks. The morning of September 30th, Mom and Dad were wearing matching shirts to support the foster organization they adopted me from. On our way back home, we stopped at this horse stable, vineyard place. Mom, Dad and Mom’s family walked around the area, and I stayed outside with Mom’s brothers. When they were done, Dad seemed a little nervous, but I didn’t know why. Mom and Dad walked me over to a gazebo because Dad wanted a picture of our family. I sat nicely for a picture and then all of a sudden Dad was on one knee and holding what looked like a sparkly piece of cheese, so I looked up at it. Then all of a sudden, Mom was crying, and Mom and Dad were hugging. And of course, I got to hug them too. Mom put the sparkly cheese on her left hand.
Mom and Dad traveled in October and December, but then I got to stay with Dad’s parents and play with all their dogs, so it was a doggy vacation for me. I was so happy when they finally got back to me after their trips.
On February 27 Mom, Dad and I went to a doggy country club and all of a sudden there was another puppy in the car with us. She was very soft and small, but she really likes to jump on me. She is very loud. She makes funny noises when she wakes up and has a very loud bark for how tiny she is. Mom and Dad called her Nova. After a few days, I realized she was staying with us for a long time which made me happy because I love having a friend to play with and go on walks with. She wakes up really early, and I usually like to sleep in, so I’ve been exhausted lately. Even though she annoys me sometimes, I am delighted to have a little sister to watch out for.
The start of March we all went on our first family vacation together where there was lots of trees and snow. The car ride was really long, but Nova and I got to cuddle together the entire trip.
The past year has been the best year of my life. Mom and Dad take the best care of me, and now I even have a baby sister. I am so excited to see what more adventures we as a family do together. I would love to meet you, but you should come to visit me because I’m most comfortable in our home.
A little bit more about me:
I have anxiety when I am in new places or meeting new people, but over the past year, I have gotten more comfortable. I even let one of Mom’s friend’s fiancé sit with me on the couch. Over the past year, I have gotten more comfortable with change especially because I know Mom and Dad wouldn’t ever take me anywhere that wasn’t safe.
One of my favorite ways to start the morning is when Mom and I are lying in bed, I roll onto my back and she scratches my belly. I am happiest when Mom and Dad hug and they let me hug them too. Whenever they cuddle, I always want to be cuddling with them. Whenever Mom and Dad get home, I always give them big hugs and let them know how much I love them. Even though everybody tells me that I’m handsome I don’t really like to sit for photos.
Some of the names that I go by are Badingers, Ding Dings, Scouters and Scouter Bouters.
My favorite foods are turkey sticks, string cheese, and peanut butter. I love long walks with Mom and Dad and when they play with me. My favorite spot to sleep is at the end of the bed unless Dad accidentally kicks me. During the day I enjoy curling up in the closet because it’s quiet and dark which makes for a perfect place to nap. I don’t know how to play fetch, but I love devouring bones. I don’t bark that much because I would rather just sit quietly and watch what’s going on. I
I am so grateful to have found my forever family and look forward to what our future as a family will hold.
